Chelsea are close to completing a deal to sign goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes, his agent has told Senegalese Media.
Chelsea have been the busiest club in the premier league this summer having already spent over £200m bringing in six new players. This spending spree does not seem to be over with Frank Lampard hoping to strengthen his squad further.
Frank Lampard has been looking to find a new goalkeeper to challenge his beleaguered number one goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard had a poor form last season and his performance against Brighton was not convincing as he failed to keep a clean sheet conceding a 30 yard strike.
The blues have been in talks with Rennes over a possible deal that is expected to be around £25m, however, the French club has been requesting Chelsea’s centre-back Fikayo Tomori as part of the deal.
But things seem to be in final stages, this is according to Mendy’s agent Djilly Dieng, who told Senegalese Media that a £20.1m deal had been agreed between the two clubs.
“The deal with Chelsea is almost done. Only the formalization is remaining. It could be completed even on next hours”. Dieng told the Media.
If completed, Mendy will be Chelsea’s seventh summer signing joining Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Malang Sarr, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz on the list of acquisitions.
