Chelsea have announced the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes on a five year contract in a deal that is worth £22 million.
Prior to the signing, Mendy had been heavily linked to joining the blues to provide competition for an out of form Kepa Arrizabalaga who has already conceded thrice in two matches.
The 28 year old has expressed joy after signing, saying “I am excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream come true to be part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff. I look forward to meeting my teammates and can’t wait to get started.”
Chelsea director Marina Granosvakaia has confirmed what Lampard had previously said that Mendy was recommended by Petr Czech who played in the same position for Chelsea for ove r ten years and now serves as the technical director at the club.
Mendy becomes the 8th player to join Chelsea following on from Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr,Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz.
